A cool sunny morning welcomed the 24 drivers into the pits, as the track went green for the 20 minute qualifying session. The field streamed out the pits and began working heat into their fresh Hankook tyres. Returning champion Phil House broke the timing beam first throwing down a bench mark time, which was quickly matched by Thompson as he flashed across the line.
Jamie Bond was next to top the times but only for a brief moment as Thompson threw down the gauntlet putting a 1 second margin between himself and the second fastest time. House and Gordon both improved to slot in between Thompson and Bond, with Kieran Gordon shaving Thompson’s margin in half in provisional second place.
VAG Trophy race winner, Ben Wallace was next to jump up the timing sheets going second, just one tenth off Thompson ahead. Team Hard’s Jamie Bond shot once again to the top of the timing screen but to only be displaced by Thompson improving his time with two purple sectors. Further down the order championship points leader Tom Witts set his first representative lap time placing sixth, trying to pull everything out of the car on maximum ballast. Maximum Motorsport’s Tim Docker set the fastest lap time of the Sportsman Trophy competitors qualifying a career best eighth position.
The chequered dropped with no further improvements in the field seeing Bobby Thompson claim pole position with a Team Hard front row lock out with Jamie Bond lining up alongside him. Third place on the grid will be JWB’s Kieran Gordon taking to the second row of the grid.
