Depper Pulls out Early Advantage in Free Practice at Castle Combe

Leading free practice at Castle Combe was Jack Depper. In overcast conditions, the Volkswagen Scirocco dominated proceedings, leading his nearest rival by over a second and a half in the VW Racing Cup. His time ensures the current title leader will be favourite heading into qualifying for Maximum Motorsport.

Depper and Turner were determined to continue their battle from Silverstone, with the pair swapping times throughout the foggy practice session. Far from the beach weather that greeted the teams as they arrived in the paddock yesterday, a dew had set in early on throwing up many of the drivers pre-weekend preparations.

A late lap in practice from Jack Depper however would throw open the floodgates, as his 1min 11.950 was 1.67 seconds ahead of Turner’s best. The competitors had only time for 7 laps, yet it would all prove vital as they prepared for similar conditions for qualifying at 10:10am.

Fresh off his second place at Silverstone, Russell Joyce was again leading the way of the chasing pack, recording a 1min 15.713 to slot into third overall for the Power Maxed Car Care Racing team. He maintained a two second gap to his teammate Chris Wallis, who was only improving the latter stages, setting his fastest lap at the end.

Second place man in the championship Jeff Alden would round out the top five as the Golf driver will look to hang on to his position after recording a double podium last time out.

Cars will venture onto the track at 10.10am Qualifying. The first 20-minute race gets the green light at 14.00 with the second at 17.10. All of the action, together with driver interviews and exclusive behind the scenes insights, will be live streamed on the Volkswagen Racing Cup Facebook page and You Tube channel.
