Son Beats Father as Jack Depper Takes Second Pole of the Year

A Scirocco 1-2 welcomed the fans of the Maximum Networks Volkswagen Racing Cup, as championship leader Jack Depper took the early advantage ahead of the Brands Hatch triple-header.

Olly Turner was the standout man from Free Practice and was quick to stamp out a selection of quick early times. It would not last for long however as the father-son duo of Jack and Martin Depper set about lowering the benchmark.

To the surprise of few, all focus would be on the two title protagonists and Martin Depper. The trio would continue to swap lap times, though it would eventually be Jack’s 52.336 that would see him secure his second pole position of the year, just 0.068 seconds ahead of his old man. More importantly though, this put a car between himself and Olly Turner who would settle for third, still just 0.391 seconds back for JM Racing.

Joining him on the second row will be the championship’s most consistent driver Jeff Alden. Finishing either third or fourth for every race this season, Alden looks set to continue that run for Matrix Motorsport, though will have his work cut out to hold off Russell Joyce, who was unable to set a lap in the Golf Mk7 and will have it all to do from the back.

The grid for race three was set by the second fastest times in qualifying with Martin Depper set to lead son Jack, with Olly Turner and Jeff Alden behind.

Driver Interviews and exclusive behind the scenes insights, will be live streamed on the Volkswagen Racing Cup Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The action gets underway Saturday 19th June with the first race at 14:55. Keep up with the Volkswagen Racing Cup social media for further coverage of the series.
